The TMDS Environment - An Overview of DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPort (Joe Cornwall)
TMDS is the fastest growing signal application, and it will eventually be a part of every installation, whether it is residential, commercial, a presentation system, digital signage or part of an educational facility. Upon completion of this presentation, you will enjoy a working understanding of DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPort technology, the importance of maintaining HDCP functionality, and the unique manner in which TMDS signals interface with displays, selectors, processors and repeaters.

 

In this session, you will ...
1. Gain an understanding of the characteristics of digital audio/video signal distribution within the framework of the TMDS environment
2. Learn about the differences and similarities of DVI-D (single link and dual link), HDMI and DisplayPort.
3. Gain insight into how these complex digital A/V signals are best delivered, and what limitations and challenges might surface during a system installation

 

Joe Cornwall has worked in the commercial AV industry for more than two decades. He has held management and technical positions with Sony, General Instrument and Motorola Broadband Communications Sector. Cornwall was a founding member of C-Big, the C-Band Industry Group, and he served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) from 1999 to 2003. Today, Cornwall holds the position of business development manager for Lastar, where he's responsible for promotion, support and growth of a full complement of connectivity solutions, including the award-winning RapidRun line of products. Cornwall holds CTS, DSCE, ISF-C and ROI industry certifications.

 

Understanding HD Video (Ken Leffingwell)
This seminar will cover the basics of transmitting and displaying HD video. Various definitions and industry acronyms will be explained in simple language. We will explore how media players and display monitors process HD video and how various transmission schemes affect the process. Finally, we will review different cable connections.

Ken Leffingwell is vice president of worldwide sales for WEGENER with over 25 years of experience in the satellite communications, broadcast television and CATV industries. Over the years, he has held various positions through previous employment including applications engineer, systems engineering, program manager and customer services manager. Recent speaking engagements include discussions on digital signage within banking and urgent messaging.
